The Yosemite Valley trip.

Landing at Mariposa Yosemite Airport is a pleasure. The surrounding area is beautiful and it's just a fun airport to land it. There is a restaurant 1/4 mile from the airport but we drove off the other way and never saw it. I had rented a car from Enterprise and the FBO had it waiting for me when I arrived. Transit parking is not marked but it's right in front of the terminal. The gentleman at the FBO was very friendly and helpful marking up a map for us.

We arrived early in the morning wanting to make a day of it. After landing we drove to Mariposa for breakfast. The FBO recommended the Red Fox and we were not disappointed.

After breakfast we drove to into Yosemite Valley. I would guess the drive was about 45 minutes from Mariposa to the park gate. I had never visited Yosemite in the fall. Crowds are down and the trees have turned. It's a very different place. We spent the day touring the park then had a early dinner at the Ahwahnee Hotel before heading for the airport.

I wanted to be wheels up before dark because I wasn't comfortable with the surrounding terrain after dark. On climb out we were treated with to a wonderful sunset. It was a great trip! Maybe we'll do it again in the spring.

Final to Mariposa Yosemite Airport. Taking off downhill looks attractive at first but, there is a lot of obstacles to deal with. Weather permitting I would recommend landing and departing uphill on runway 26.

We saw this Buck and were taking pictures from 1/8 mile away. As we got closer and closer, finally within 25' of the Buck but he just wasn't concerned about us.

The Buck wasn't concerned until we got to close to his females.

I'm a little off course because I wanted to get out over the valley floor for the flight home.
