Fuel on airport? |
Yes, typically low prices |
Landing or Handling fees? |
No, I've never even been charged for
overnight. The FBO really tries hard and it's a pleasure to
give them my business. |
Comments about arriving and departing. |
Due to high
terrain you may not see the airport until the last 3 to 5
miles depending on the direction you're coming from. |
Things to do at or near the airport. |
On the airport there is Chief Aircraft.
Off the airport I suggest you rent a car and stay the night. This is a very nice area with lots of
outdoor activities. |

9.0 but you'll need a rental car. |

Things to do in
Grants Pass ! |
|
Here's what I suggest. Spend the night! Get a car
from the FBO and a hotel room on the river. In the morning have breakfast on the river
then explore the area. For dinner catch the Jet Boats down
the river to the O.K. Corral. It's a 1:15 minute ride each way and
you'll get a little damp. Don't sit in the front row of the boats, if you do
damp may take on a whole new meaning. The following morning have breakfast or
brunch on the river again. Tank up on cheap AvGas before heading for home.
Dinning next to the Rogue River is always a
pleasure. Some of my favorite places to eat on the river
are listed below and I can highly
recommended any of the below.
O.K. Corral: Is about 25
miles northwest of town and accessible only by the HellGate Jet
Boats (pictures below). Running down the river on the jet boats is a
lot of fun. The location can't be beat and the food is wonderful.
Served family style and all you can eat including wine and beer.
Don't miss this one!
TapRock: Where
downtown meets the Rogue River between the 6th and 7th street
bridges right where the Jet Boats load. This is my favorite place in town. Nice menu for breakfast,
lunch or dinner. The building is very well done inside and out. My
only complaint is the noise level. Eat outside on the deck if
weather permits.
R-Haus: Is truly an
large old house on the river at 2140 Rogue River Highway.
Dinner and brunch and I've really enjoyed their brunch. Big trees
and a large green lawn make a nice relaxing setting. Also a favorite
of wedding planers.
River's Edge: Just east of
town at 1935 Rogue River Highway. Dinning for Brunch, Lunch
and Dinner. I like eating outside where there is an excellent view
of the river.

One last look at Mt. Shasta taken from
13,500 on the way home. Shasta stands at 14,179 feet and is
the 5th highest peak in California. |

The TapRock Restaurant sits on the Rogue River at the
same location where you would board the Jet Boats. I
really like this place. Casual dining, good food and a great
view. |
|
The VIP room at the TapRock. I just don't get it. Must
be an Oregon thing. |

Passing though Hellgate Canyon where the
water runs deep and fast. |
|
Several movies and TV
shows have been shot at Hellgate from Gun Smoke to The River Wild.
The famous jump sequence from Butch Cassidy & The Sundance
Kid was shot here too. |
|
There are several Jet Boat tour packages
available, we choose the dinner run. A 75 minute ride down
the river for dinner then back to Grants Pass. Well worth the
price! This is the dinning facility. |
|
Dinner at the O.K. Corral, all you can
eat! Tossed Green Salad, Corn Bread, Biscuits, Barbecued
Ribs and Chicken, Fresh Vegetables, Ranch Potatoes and
Dessert accompanied by Beer, Wine, Iced Tea, Lemonade,
Coffee and Hot Tea. |
