Don't discount the Borrego Valley Airport, this is a really nice stop during the cooler months. This area is truly desert surrounded on three sides by peaks rising to over 7000 feet. Visibility is always 100 plus miles and from the airport you can watch the acrobatic box. The last time this airport went IMC Nixon was President. There are a few places to eat: Assaggio Ristorante Italiano is on the airport. It has replaced the Tailwind Steakhouse. You can park within 70 feet of the door. They are open 7:00am to 9:00pm everyday except Tuesday. Nice place. Eat at the bar and watch the planes land and takeoff. BONUS!! there is a deck on top of the restaurant where you can watch the activity at the airport while sucking on an iced tea. Very good Italian food! Breakfast Menu ~ Lunch Menu ~ Dinner Menu ************* La Casa del Zorro is San Diego Counties only 4 Star resort. The food is outstanding but pricey. Lunch for two will run $50. It's very nice eating outside on the Patio. The airport manager can call a car for you and the ride is about 7 minutes. I've walked the grounds and they are very nice. Looks like a great place to stay. ************* The Arches Restaurant at the Borrego Springs Resort ranks pretty high among pilots too. Eat overlooking the golf course. I've never been there but I know they pick up and drop off at the airport
