The Super Viking has made this trip a
couple of times and we've really enjoyed it. Watch the weather!
Being close to the coast the marine layer rolls in morning and
evening. There are several airports in the area and worse case you
may have to divert until it burns off.
I've use
Monterey Bay Aviation
when I land at this airport. The facility is nice and staff is very
pleasant. The landing fee is waved with a fuel purchase and with a
little luck they'll give you a ride to Cannery Row. The Cannery Row
is too far to walk but a taxi ride is only $20 with the tip. If
you'll be returning to your plane late I suggest MillionAire, they
are open all night.
Arriving in the morning I'm looking for
breakfast when we land and
First Awakenings has always been excellent. First Awakenings is
a 1/2 block walk to Cannery Row so ask to be dropped off there, you
can walk to the Aquarium and Cannery Row after eating.
The
Monterey Bay Aquarium
is very nicely done. The Jelly Fish displays are are amazing as is
the tank that holds several large Tuna and Dorado. On our last visit
they had a Great White in the Tuna tank too.
Get your hand
stamped and leave the Aquarium for lunch. There are several very
good eateries on Cannery Row, you can't go wrong. We stayed for
dinner a couple of years ago and found several excellent places to
eat, all within walking distance.
This is a good trip, the
Aquarium is nice as is the food and shopping along Cannery row. Get
a ride to the area and everything will be within walking distance.

Hearst Castle with the private
runway in the background. I was surprised to see an aircraft
on the ramp. Monday's FAA accident report showed a
N31KT had had rolled back and hit a car. Tuesday's news said
Brooke Shields and Jim Belushi were unharmed in the
aircraft accident. |
